Vanuatu Greater Port Vila (GPV) Urban Resilience Project
Project Overview:
This project aimed to improve urban resilience in Greater Port Vila (GPV) through capacity building, institutional strengthening, and the construction of multipurpose emergency shelters. It focuses on strengthening urban planning, local partnerships, and asset management capacity.
Key Contributions:
- Policy Review and Mainstreaming: Reviewed corporate and business plans, land-use zoning, and development control plans to ensure DRR and CCA are properly mainstreamed.
- Hazard & Risk Mapping: Updated GIS hazard zoning and risk hotspot maps and provided critical into GPV Resilient Urban Development Strategy and Action Plan (RUDSAP).
- Capacity Building: Led the design and delivery of training on climate and disaster resilience for government officials.
Outcomes & Impact:
- Strengthened asset management and institutional capacity for urban resilience.
- Ensured inclusive participation, with at least 40% of the trained government officials being women.
